FAQ's

Where are we located?
Curious Kids is a 100% mobile program, which means we bring our classes to different parks throughout the city. The majority of our programs are in the first section of the Bosque de Chapultepec, between the Flower Market and Parque La Hormiga.
What does a class look like?
Our classes are planned according to a rhythm, more than a timetable. We plan our time together based on inhales and exhales. An "inhale" is a focused, structured group time such as our Welcome Circle, Snack and Gratitude Circle. Inhales are always followed by "exhales" which is an unstructured, child-led time where children can play, explore, move and pursue their own projects. Our rhythm often looks like:
Welcome Circle (sing songs, listen to stories, emotions check-in, connect as a group)
Free Play & Explore (supervised play time)
Snack (sit together for a picnic snack)
Nature Walk (a leisurely, open-ended walk focusing on observation skills and discovery)
Gratitude Circle (we come together to reflect on the day and connect as a group)
Is the program 100% English? Can my child attend if they don't speak English?
While we operate mostly in English (85%) and our activities are designed with English learners in mind, we are much more than an English class. We call ourselves an "English Explorers Club" because we are exploring IN English, but also exploring English as a language. Our goal is for our students to develop a fun, positive relationship with learning that feels authentic and meaningful to them. This especially applies for language learning. With her Master's of Education in Teaching English and 10 years of experience teaching non-native English speakers, Miss Bri has implemented support tools for students who don't speak English. In addition, all of our staff are bilingual and we use Spanish to explain rules, safety expectations, and complicated concepts related to nature.
What do you do in case of rain?
Have you heard the saying "There's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing"? If not, you would hear it all the time at Curious Kids! As a Forest School program, we believe in being outdoors in all-weather, so we ask that children dress in warm layers and raingear (boots, raincoat and/or rainsuit) when the forecast calls for rain. While we can't construct a shelter in the public spaces that we use, we set up our adventure site near a roofed area, in case the children don't feel up to playing in the rain (which is rarely the case!)
In case of extreme heavy rain, thunder or lightning, sessions will be canceled.
How many staff are present?
To ensure the safety of all our students, we maintain a children to adult ratio of 4:1.
Will my child be safe at Curious Kids?
The safety of our students is our first priority, which is why we implement a variety of safety measures. In addition to our low children to adult ratio, we create a designated exploration space marked with small cones. If the children would like to leave the space, they must ask an adult to accompany them. Before the children arrive, the space is checked for dangerous materials and garbage. We also have a first-aid kit on site.
Where do the children use the bathroom?
We bring our own bathroom, tent for privacy and hand-washing materials for children to use the bathroom without leaving the site.
